Loss of income: It is a mental torture to be working but not able to meet the needs of the family

If the situation continues like this, it seems that middle-class people like me will come to the streets. In one year my monthly income has reduced from three lakh rupees to less than one lakh rupees. Earlier, I used to help my brothers financially, but now it is becoming a problem to meet the expenses of my family.

Muneer Ahmed Kaharu, a resident of Karachi, while talking to the BBC about the problems of the decreasing per capita income of the common people in the country, said that he used to help the younger brothers from time to time, but now instead of helping someone financially, he. Struggling for my financial expenses.'

Muneer Ahmed runs a limited-scale business in the Sher Shah area of Karachi. Their job is buying and selling plastic granules.

A year and a half ago he had expanded the business a little and set up a small plant due to the good profit he was getting in the business.

Munir Ahmed says that a year and a half ago, his business was doing well and other people in his field were also doing well. Although there were a few problems, the business was still thriving. The income also used to be three and a half three lakh rupees, from which savings were also made along with meeting the expenses.

Ramsha Minhas, an associate manager at a private firm in Karachi, is also concerned these days due to the decline in income. His salary was 70 thousand rupees a year ago. He took a break from his job and when he resumed his job, his salary was fixed at Rs 50,000.

According to Ramsha, there is currently a high rate of inflation in the country due to which the salary of a year ago is very low, and when the salary is reduced, then meeting the financial expenses is no less than climbing a mountain.

"Income decreased from three lakhs to less than one lakh"

What happened in the country during the year was that many people like Munir Ahmed and Ramsha Minhas saw a decrease in their income.

Munir Ahmed recycles the plastic granules and sells them in the market or makes polythene bags or shoppers out of them.

They say that their problems started to increase after June 2022 when the government imposed a ban on imports and they started facing difficulties in getting raw materials.

He says that the problem of procuring plastic granules which started in June last year is continuing till today and now the supply of plastic granules from factories supplying the market has also decreased and the reduction in the supply of raw materials has led to this. The price has also been increased.

When the suppliers discussed this, they said that there is a ban on imports and now the raw materials are not coming in or are being supplied in very small quantities, and supply and demand have made a difference in the price.

On the other hand, a huge increase in electricity prices in one year also affected Munir's financial income.

He says that last year the price of a unit of electricity was Rs 18 to Rs 22 but now it has gone above Rs 50. Earlier the electricity bill which was one to one and a half lakh rupees has now reached six lakh every month while on the other hand, the business has decreased.

He says that in this case, the income used to be less than three lahks, but now it has come down to less than one lakh.

Ramsha, who took a few months off from her first job to pursue higher education, had to work for less pay when she got a job again.

She says that during this period the prices of things went up a lot due to inflation. She says that the cost of commuting from her home to the office has tripled while her salary is less than before.

"She used to give money to help her father, but now it has become difficult."

Munir Ahmed and Ramsha Minhas are worried about their decreasing income on the one hand and on the other hand, they are worried about compromising on some things because of it.

Munir Ahmed said that now it is becoming difficult for him to meet the daily financial expenses, so the little fun that was in life has also ended.

He said that earlier he used to eat in a restaurant with his children and friends, but now he has stopped it. The financial support of the brothers has also been completely stopped.

He said that due to the decreasing income, now he is trying to increase his income by doing some work in another sector, but currently there is no sufficient success in this because of the bad economy of the country. Every sector is suffering from a recession.

Ramsha's life has also undergone some changes due to low financial income.

According to Ramsha, earlier she used to give gifts to her family and friends for which she used to save some money from her salary every month, but now due to inflation, the expenses have increased and saving is no longer possible.

She says that her father has retired and to support him, "I used to give him more money but now it has become difficult."

"In these circumstances, it is very mental torture to be working but not able to meet the needs of the family."
